For FlexPatio's current 1500W accessory, the manual requires separation from walls, the ceiling and combustible furnishings; clearance from moving louvers; a visible, reachable socket; supervision while operating; and a full shutdown after use. It also excludes immediate pool, bath and shower surroundings. Treat the product page's outdoor ratings as configuration facts, not permission to ignore the manual, local electrical rules or site-specific review.
Short answer
A heater belongs in the pergola plan before installation, not as an improvised add-on. Confirm the exact accessory and pergola configuration, map every required clearance, protect the outdoor circuit, and leave enough space for the louvers to open and close without contact.
Start with the exact heater and pergola
The current FlexPatio Electric Heater 1500W page presents the heater as an accessory designed for a POWER+ pergola. The current POWER+ Gen 2 and POWER+ PRO Gen 2 configurators both list it among optional accessories. That listing is not proof that the heater fits every size, layout, post, side-wall combination or existing installation.
Ask FlexPatio to identify the current heater manual and compatible mounting kit for the exact pergola order. For a retrofit, also confirm whether the beam, post wiring route and connection point were designed for the accessory. Do not drill, splice, hang or load the structure based on a photo from another configuration.
Important scope: this guide uses the current FlexPatio 1500W heater manual checked on August 27, 2026. It does not authorize a different heater, a different mounting system or a customer-specific electrical design.

Resolve clearance and louver movement together
The current 1500W heater manual says the unit must be 100 cm from a wall and 30 cm from the ceiling. It also says to keep combustible materials such as furniture, pillows, papers, clothing and curtains at least 3 feet (0.9 m) from the front and away from the sides and rear.
Those numbers are not a complete placement drawing. The installation section shows the heater beneath a beam and separately warns that its height must prevent collision with the louvers. Because the diagram gives no dimensioned louver envelope, the installer must demonstrate that one position satisfies every stated clearance while the roof travels through its full range.
Plan for the space to change. Roller shades, curtains, hanging decor, tall plants, seasonal furniture and party supplies can enter a clearance zone after installation. Marking a no-storage and no-fabric zone is more reliable than expecting guests to remember an invisible boundary.
Plan power and weather boundaries before use
The manual routes supplied wiring through the crossbeam and post, says the power supply must match the heater's rating, and requires a socket that is visible and reachable. It does not provide a customer-specific circuit design. A qualified electrician should verify the nameplate, circuit capacity, grounding, connector, disconnect, outdoor enclosure and the rules adopted at the installation address.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission explains that GFCI protection is intended to interrupt ground faults and is used for outdoor receptacles. That general guidance does not select equipment for a particular pergola; the local authority and electrician control the final design.
Do not substitute a household extension cord or power strip. FlexPatio currently has a separate purpose-built cord page that mentions heater use, but the heater manual does not identify every optional accessory or connection combination. General CPSC heater guidance also warns against extension cords for portable space heaters. Obtain written FlexPatio confirmation for the exact connection instead of treating either statement as universal.
Likewise, IP65 and IP67 descriptions on the accessory page do not establish when the complete installed system may run in rain. The manual specifically says not to use the heater in the immediate surroundings of a bath, shower or swimming pool. Keep that exclusion, and ask for explicit wet-weather instructions for the exact heater, connectors, receptacle and pergola.
Stop condition: if the exact part, manual, clearance envelope, power path or water-exposure rule cannot be confirmed, do not install or operate the heater. A warm seating plan is not worth converting a documentation gap into a fire, shock or collision risk.
